Introduction
The skin is the largest organ of the human body and serves as a multifunctional protective barrier against environmental stressors. Topical cosmetic formulations play an important role in maintaining skin health and appearance.
Consumer preference for herbal cosmetic products has increased significantly due to concerns regarding synthetic skincare ingredients. Turmeric, liquorice, and aloe vera are widely recognized for their dermatological and cosmetic benefits.
Materials and Methods
The herbal turmeric glow cream was formulated using turmeric extract, liquorice extract, aloe vera gel, liquid paraffin, beeswax, borax, methyl paraben, rose water, and distilled water.
Two formulations, F1C and F2C, were prepared using an oil-in-water emulsion method with varying concentrations of herbal actives.
Evaluation Parameters
- Organoleptic evaluation
- pH measurement
- Spreadability
- Washability
- Irritancy testing
- Phase separation stability
Results and Discussion
Both formulations demonstrated acceptable cosmetic characteristics including smooth semisolid consistency, pleasant odor, favorable washability, and stable emulsion integrity.
Key observations:
- F1C pH: 5.3
- F2C pH: 5.0
- Irritation: None observed
- Washability: Good
- Phase Stability: Stable
Turmeric contributed antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, liquorice enhanced skin-brightening and soothing effects, while aloe vera improved hydration and barrier support.
Among the tested formulations, F1C demonstrated slightly superior cosmetic performance.
Conclusion
The developed polyherbal turmeric glow cream demonstrated acceptable cosmetic, physicochemical, and dermatological properties, indicating potential utility as a safe and effective herbal skincare preparation.
Further long-term stability, clinical, and analytical studies are recommended.
